Celtic loaned Renton outside-right Tom Towie for their Scottish Cup games of season 1892-93.
Renton were in dispute with the SFA at the time and the Bhoys took advantage of the situation to loan the gifted wideman. Towie’s efforts helped the Celts to the final where they were eventually defeated in a controversialy replayed final by Queen’s Park. Towie played in five ties and scored two goals.
