Willie Orr - Kerrydale Street
[Player Pics]

Willie Orr signed for Celtic on May 1st 1897 from top rated English side Preston North End and made his debut in a 4-1 home drubbing of Hibernian in a league tie on September 9th..9th.

Left-back Orr was one of several high profile players signed by Celtic in the immediate wake of the club converting to a limited company.

The Shotts-born player was an assured performer and his thoughtful but energetic approach to a game quickly made him a great asset to the Bhoys.

At times played at left-half Orr was a skillful and quick player who, for a defender. also had an eye for goal. His pace and timing, coupled with a excellent football brain, made him unquestionably one of the top left-backs in Britain.

He also possed obvious leadership qualities and as skipper of Celtic he captained the club to their famous 1904 Scottish Cup final triumph over Rangers and also the the league title in 1905 and 1906. He eventually retired in 1908 after 212 appearances and 23 goals and is rightly remebered as being a true Celtic great.
