Celtic Career Review
A no frills centre-half Mark McNally was a product of Celtic Boys Club who signed professional terms with the Hoops in May 1987.
The defender made his competitive Celtic debut as a 19 year-oldon November 6th 1990 in a 2-1 home league win over his hometown club Motherwell. It says much about the paucity of defensive talent at Parkhead in the early 90s that McNally became a first team regular despite obvious faults to his game.
His distribution was too frequently poor and this weakness was more exposed on those occasions when he was asked to fill in at right back. He was however a fully committed and whole hearted player who never gave anything but his all for the Hoops. In his final appearance for Celtic, he helped the side win the Scottish Cup, defeating Airdrie at Hampden in 1995. In total, he made 113 league appearances for the club (plus 10 appearances as substitute), scoring 1 goal.
