McCluskey, Pat
[Player Pics]
A hard tackling midfielder/defender Pat McCluskey signed for Celtic in May 1969 from Maryhill Juniors.
He was a Scotland Junior international and what he lacked in finesse he made up for in drive and determination. His Celtic debut came in a 2-1 Glasgow Cup defeat at Clyde on May 6th 1971.
Pat McCluskey lost few tackles and his commitment and fearless approach to the game made him an asset to the Celtic defence and then latterly the midfield, where he replaced the departed Davie Hay as the key ball winner. His performances won Scotland squad recognition but his career was to suffer after becoming involved in a fight at a Copenhagen nightclub while on international duty.
After losing his Celtic place to the veteran Pat Stanton Pat departed to Dumbarton in August 1977. He won two league title and two Scottish Cups with Celtic, playing 189 times and scoring 12 goals.
