William McAulay played just a single game for Celtic but the centre-forward still managed to get himself on the score-sheet.

Signed from Cambuslang Hibs in April 1898 McAulay’s one appearance came on August 20th when his goal helped Celtic defeat Third Lanark 2-1 in a league encounter at Parkhead. However he was one of several promising reserve players axed by the club in October that year as part of a short-sighted cost cutting drive.

He later went on to play for several English clubs – including Aston Villa and Portsmouth - as well as Aberdeen, Falkirk and Hibs.
