Biog

Stephane Mahe made his debut for Celtic on Saturday, 23 August 1997 in a 2-0 away victory over St Johnstone, aged 28. On arrival he competed with Tosh McKinlay for the left-back role. An experienced defender who had genuine pace, which he exploited when rampaging forward in his wing-back role.

The main downside to his play was his short temper and indiscipline, with his rashness in the tackle leading to countless red and yellow cards - most notably in the final Old Firm League encounter of 1998/99. Mahe made no apology for wearing his heart on his sleeve nor for his love for Celtic and their fans (although sometimes that can just be an excuse).


In total, he made 73 league appearances for the club (plus 3 as substitute), scoring 4 goals.
