Bellshill-born Malcolm George Mackay was a product of the Queen's Park youth set-up who signed for Celtic in August1993.

The centre-half would stay four seasons at Parkhead but failed to establish himself as a first-team regular. Strong and good in the air he was let down by a lack of pace but he did manage to score the opener with a thumping header as Celtic knocked Rangers out of the Scottish Cup 2-0 in March 1997.

He joined Norwich in September 1998 and went on to have a steady career in England where he became a respected performer at Championship level.
