Goalkeeper Alistair Hunter signed for the Bhoys in January 1973 from Kilmarnock after impressing against Celtic in the 1972 Scottish Cup semi final..

His debut came in a 2-1 league defeat at Airdrie on January 27th but despite that disappointing start he quickly endeared himself to the Celtic support and by May he had won his first Scotland cap. A brave keeper, always willing to play through the pain barrier, Hunter's self-confidence was however rather fragile and a couple of high profile mistakes for club and country in the autumn of 1973 had an undoubted effect on his form.

By Spring 1974 he was no longer an automatic pick for Celtic with Denis Connaghan now seemingly Jock Stein's preferred choice for the No 1 jersey. Ally regained his place the following season but by now Stein was looking for another keeper and the arrival of Peter Latchford in February 1975 signalled the begining of the end for Hunter. He eventually left Celtic for Motherwell in April 1976 after a total of 91 appearances.
