The great Davie Hamilton was signed by Celtic in April 1902 from Cambuslang Hibernian.
A Scottish junior internationalist Hamilton had impressed during trials for the Bhoys and the outside-left continued to impress when he made a scoring debut on May 19th as Celtic defeated Hearts 3-1 in a Charity Cup tie at Parkhead.
Although prone to spells of inconsistency, far more often than not Davie was a supreme wideman. Direct and with electricfying pace he was a real menace to opposition defences. Never more so than when he lined up alongside Alec Bennett, Jimmy McMenemy, Jimmy Quinn and Peter Somers in one of the greatest attacking line-ups in the history of Celtic and Scottish football.
Davie was a key player in the side than took six league title in a row and he won the Scottish Cup in 1904, 1908 and 1911.
A colourful character Davie would entertain the team with his fine singing voice and on the field of play he was not afraid to voice his opinion. He would receive a two month suspension for threatening language in October1907October 1907 when he voiced his dismay at the officials by telling referee JB Stark "I wish I had a revolver"!
A much loved player Davie Hamilton played 260 times for Celtic and scored 60 goals. He departed Parkhead in December 1912 for Dundee and would also play briefly with Bathgate before retiring in 1914.
