A product of the Celtic Boys Club winger John Halpin signed for the Bhoys in September 1978 after a spell at Armadale Thistle.
The Broxburn-born player had an abundance of pace and liked nothing more than running at the opposition full-back. He made his Hoops debut in a 4-0 Scottish Cup victory at home to Queen of the South on January 23rd 1982 and he marked the occasion with a goal.
However he suffered a series of injuries and despite some good showings at reserve level he was never able to force his way into the first team picture on a regular basis. He left Celtic for Carlisle in October 1984 after 14 Celtic appearances and one goal.
