O'Callaghan, born 1940 worked for hotel chain Stakis SKS.L from 1972 to 1989 and was chairman of McDonald Hotels Plc in 1989.

McCann's divided the post of Chairman into non-executive Chairman and Chief Executive. Frank O'Callaghan was took up the position of non-executive Chairman on the departure of Fergus McCann while Allan McDonald became Chief Executive.

"I was flattered when I was asked to be the next chairman of Celtic. I consider myself a Celtic supporter, and it is the ultimate accolade to be involved with the club at this level," he said.

"I think the decision to have a non-executive chairman is the right one, and if you look at thFrank O'Callaghan - Kerrydale Streete most successful club in Britain - Manchester United - that is the structure they have."

Frank O'Callaghan announced his resignation on 5 June 2000.
