Signed from Mossend Celtic in March 1895 John Devlin was an inside-right.

He scored on his debut - a 4-0 home league win over Leith Atlhletic on March 16th - in which his brother James also played for the Bhoys. His second - and final - Celtic appearance came in a 1-1 draw at Rangers a week later. He joined Airdrie in August that year.
