Celtic signed outside-right James Davidson from Leith Athletic in 1892 and the player made his debut for the Bhoys in a 2-2 league draw at Rangers on September 24th 1892.

He enjoyed an impressive debut season as Celtic won the championship for the very first time. However he was to lose his place in the team to Johnny Madden the next season after a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Rangers.

Davidson played 21 times for Celtic and scored 8 goals before leaving for Burnley in July 1895.
