Having impressed with Celtic Boys Club Danny Crainie was signed by Billy McNeill for the Hoops in August 1979.

He made his first team debut as a sub in a 2-2 league draw with Partick Thistle at Parkhead and the right-winger was to make a valuable contribution during the remainder of the season as the Celts claimed the league championship.

He scored within 90 seconds of his first Rangers clash as the Bhoys triumphed 2-1 at Parkhead on April 10th and two weeks later he bagged a hatrick at Partick.

However his form dipped the next season and the arrival of a new manager in the shape of Davie Hay in the summer of 1983 signaled the end for Crainie at Celtic and by October he was on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He eventually joined Wolves in December after 32 appearances and 8 goals as a Bhoy.
