A fine outside-left Dumbarton-born John Browning was signed by the Bhoys from Vale of Leven in April 1911.1911.
His debut came in a 1-0 league victory at Third Lanark on November 2nd 1912.1912. As succesor to the great Davoe Hamilton he quickly established himself as a first team regular with some fine performances on the flank. An integral member of the side that won four league title in succesion Browning also hit two goals against Hibernian in the 1914 Scottish Cup finl to help the Bhoys lift the cup.
Injuries would curtail his final season at Parkhead and in June 1919,1919, with his best days behind him, he departed Glasgow and headed for Chelsea.
