Baines, Roy

[Picture Gallery]

Goalkeeper Roy Baines joined Celtic in 1976 from Morton. He moved to Parkhead in an exchange deal which saw Andy Ritchie move to Greenock.

The English-born former Derby County and Hibernian man had previously had an unsuccesful trial at Celtic Park in 1968, although he did enough to have Jock Stein recommend him to Bob Shankley at Easter Road.

During a three year spell at Celtic Baines would mostly play second fiddle to fellow countryman Peter Latchford. He eventually returned to Morton in 1979 after making 16 starts for the Bhoys.
