Andrews, Ian

Ian AndrewsBorn December 1st 1964, goalkeeper Ian Andrews, a promising England under 21 player, was signed from Leicester City in June 1988. He was the summers only signing for £300,000. He was seen as a solid backup goalkeeper to Packy Bonner, who was in fact injured at the time of his signing. Prior to joining Celtic he had been out on loan to Swindon Town. In the end he wasn't needed with Packy recovering and he ended up playing mostly Premier Reserve games. He was loaned to Southampton in early December before heading there permanently (there he was second to Tim Flowers) for £200k on the 7/2/90.
Subsequently he transferred to Bournemouth. Celtic 8 appearances 1 shut out. He finally returned to Leicester under Martin O'Neill as a physiotherapist and was still training with the team in '98 making 4 team apps at Leicester 00/01 season and was down as GK coach before becoming a physiotherapist.
He left Leicester in 2004 and now works as a Physiotherapist for Bath University teams.

Andrews played in goal at Ibrox on 27th of August for Celtic's 5-1 defeat, Celtic's worst loss to Rangers in 28 years.

By December he was on loan at Leeds United where he played one game before returning to Celtic. He left Celtic for Southampton in December of 1989 for £200,000.
