Aussie report:
Australia striker on target for Celtic
Scottish Premier League
SOCCEROOS striker Scott McDonald scored his 14th goal of the season as Celtic eased to a 3-0 win against Aberdeen to remain top of the table yesterday.
Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink flicked home the opener on 14 minutes after latching on to a header from Czech midfielder Jiri Jarosik.
Celtic then took a 2-0 lead before the half-hour mark, when midfielder Aiden McGeady launched a fierce, left-footed drive beyond keeper Jamie Langfield.
McDonald added the third in 49 minutes, his 11th goal in the Scottish league and 14th in all competitions this season.
However, the Parkhead club's domestic bliss will be tempered by the injury to keeper Artur Boruc in the warm-up, the Pole in doubt for the key Champions League match at home against Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday morning (AEDT).
Scottish international Paul Hartley could also be in doubt after missing the Dons game through illness, but Celtic boss Gordon Strachan hopes both can recover in time.
``Artur thought he was OK, but he has a problem with his toe and had to pull out at the last minute. Paul is ill and I sent him home before the game. Hopefully after another few days rest they'll be OK,'' Strachan said.
Celtic has 31 points from 13 games and has yet to concede a home goal in the league this season.
Rangers won 3-1 at Falkirk in wet, windy conditions, thanks to goals from Spanish defender Carlos Cueller, French striker Jean-Claude Darcheville and forward Kris Boyd, and remain second on 29 points.
``We should have been comfortable (winners), but we managed a third near the end,'' Rangers manager Walter Smith said.
``Certainly, in the second half of the game, Falkirk were the better side.''
Hibernian drew 2-2 at home with Dundee United who had Sean Dillon sent off.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle beat St Mirren 1-0, with Don Cowie firing the first-half winner with a neat volley, and Kilmarnock lost 1-0 at home to Motherwell. Hearts play Gretna overnight in the remaining fixture.
