Experimental Celts lose out in Warsaw

[Scotsman]

An experimental Hoops line-up, featuring Stephen McManus alongside Gary Caldwell in central defence, and Alan Thompson just in front of the back four, were beaten by a Michal Gottwald strike in the 49th minute. Close-season signing Kenny Miller made his Celtic debut, as did Jiri Jarosik, but it was Aiden McGeady and Nicky Riley who came closest to scoring. McGeady had a first-half goal disallowed for offside, and Riley forced a fine save from Jan Mucha from a header.

Stilian Petrov, who continues to seek a move away from Parkhead, also saw an effort well stopped, before David Marshall saved a Roger Guerreiro penalty, which had been given away by Thompson's mistimed tackle.
