Sutton and Thompson were both sent off for the Celts, and Joos Valgaeren gave away a penalty which allowed Novo to open the scoring. Thompson's red was for headbutting Peter Lovenkrands, and Sutton's for two deliberate handballs in the penalty box, in the 56thminute. O'Neill was furious at the refeering, and felt that Lovenkrands and Novo could both have been sent off as well.
