Celtic were pushed by the Steelmen at Fir Park but went on to win 2-0 on Sunday. John Hartson gave the Bhoys a good start with a goal after three minutes. But the home side hit back with two near misses from Derek Adams, and one of them - a penalty - was well saved by Douglas.
With Motherwell running out of puff and ideas, Celtic were finding gaps in the home defence and Petrov was upended 20-yards from goal as he raced goalward. From the resultant free kick Thompson curled a delicious strike over the defensive wall and into the net.
