Trivia

  • For the Cup tie Partick had wanted the game switched to Hampden for safety reasons, as part of the Firhill ground was undergoing renovation. The SFA vetoed this. In the end there grounds for vetoing the move - that there was no precedent - would not have been upheld if pressed.
  • For some reason, probably due to the reduced ground capacity due to the above noted safety reasons, higher admission charges than normal applied to this game.
  • Both Peter Grant and Mick McCarthy were suspended for this game.

  • Manager Interview :
  • “Tommy Burns deserved the MotM award. He worked very hard but he also backed up many of his team mates. Although I felt that we didn’t quite hit peak form on Saturday the professionalism shown by the players was pleasing.”
“There was a potential upset on the cards but we accommodated the threat well despite being hindered by a heavy pitch and Thistle’s up and at ‘em tactics in the first half.”
“The goals too were magnificent. Each one of them had a stamp of quality about it. We were able to curb Thistle’s enthusiasm in the first half and then enjoy the second half more than just a little”.
“And Billy Stark once again showed that when there is even a sniff of a chance he’ll always be there at the kill.”
