An evening game replay saw Celtic go through to win a 5th Round tie against Partick Thistle.
Hibs defended in depth and were able to frustrate Celtic’s attacking fluency. In 180 minutes Bonner was not called on to make a single save largely due to the presence of McCarthy. With Hibs attack nullified Celtic became adventurous up front. McStay’s hard tackling and Grant’s committment meant 90% possession. Stark and Burns tested the flanks backed by overlapping full backs of Morris and Whyte. McGhee and McAvennie had a good number of chances. Celtic hit bar twice and Goram had to pull off some big saves. Stark hit side netting then had a lob cleared off the line. Finally w Joe Miller on for McGhee and 11 minutes remaining Miller and Burns worked a short free kick on the left, Burns squared the ball to Peter Grant 20yds out, he unleashed a fierce shot which hammered off the underside of the bar and down onto the line and as it bounced out four Celtic players converged on it Stark got there first.
