This game was undertaken by the Celtic Reserve XI who had played against Aberdeen Reserves at Pittodrie the day before - from there it was only a short trip up the road to fulfil the engagement for Nat Porter's 10 year Testimonial with Peterhead.

- Pat Bonner was recovering match fitness after a period out ill with a virus. He would play with the Reserves until winning his First team place back from Allen McKnight on 24th October
- Declan Roche was a young Irish full back starting to get games with the Reserves.
- Lex Baillie would go on to make his first team debut this season.
- Pierce O'Leary was dropping out of first team contention and would leave at the end of the season
- Brian McGee was a well thought of player that could play as a holding midfielder or a defender. He had come right through the system but would fail to make it through to the first team and would be released at the end of the season.
- Mark Smith. This was one of his last games for a Celtic side before being released on a free to Dunfermiline
- Ray McStay - youngest of the brothers and just starting out
- Steve Murray - recently acquired from Nottingham Forest Youths - he had already experienced first team football when at Forest on loan to Lincoln City
- Doug McGuire would go to Germany with the main team for the away leg with Borussia Dortmund and would get on in front of 54,000 as a sub for Andy Walker
- Charlie Christie - had recently been scouted from Inverness Thistle. He would have a couple of seasons for the Reserves before returning to the amalgamated Inverness Caledonian Thistle and go on to become manager.
- Steve Fulton - the young Baggio in his first season for the club and altready making a name for himself
- Gerry Britton, Alex Mathie and Mark McNally were also in their first full seasons with the club..
