1926-02-06 Celtic 4-0 Hamilton

The Scotsman - Monday, 8th February 1926, page 11

CELTIC’S CONVINCING WIN.

It is safe to say that Celtic were never stretched in their tie with Hamilton Academicals at Celtic Park. Glasgow, and the majority of the 26,000 spectators who braved the elements, expecting to see a close finish were sadly disappointed. Celtic won just, as easily as the score 4-0 represents, and at no time in the game did the Academical forwards look like getting the better of the Celtic Defence. Sheviin had practically nothing to do throughout the game, so well did the men in front of him play. The half-backs completely tied up the Hamilton forwards, and also gave their own plenty of support. For half an hour the Academicals defence, with a little luck, withstood a brilliant Celtic attack, but when M'Inally diverted a free kick by Wilson past Sommerville they cracked up. Thomson and M'Grory quickly added other goals to practically settle the issue. Celtic eased up in the second half, but they were still the superior side, their clever footwork at times bewildering the opposition. Fifteen minutes from the end M"Lean scored a fourth goal. Sommerville, M'Cormack . Thomson, and Williamson were the only Academicals seen to advantage
