1912-09-14 Airdrieonians 1-4 Celtic

The Scotsman - Monday, 16th September 1912, page 5

AIRDRIE0NIANS v. CELTIC . At Airdrie, before 15,000 spectators. The game opened sensationally, the Celtic forwards commencing with a finely sustained movement, which, though partially checked ended in Gray scoring before play was well begun. Then followed some exciting play, in the midst of which Gray and then Reid got hurl. A second goal went, to the Celtic through Mackie spooning a ball, which M'Menemy got hold of and drove into the net. Brown touched the ball, but failed to stop it. Immediately after, following on smart work by Conlin, Donaldson reduced the leeway. This was all the scoring in the first half, which had been a grand one, with the Celtic luck leaders. . Reid was very lame, and with Airdrie thus handicapped, the Celtic scored once more through Johnstone. This reverse took a lot of heart out of the home side, - who fell away, and near the end the Celtic were easily masters of the situation. Gallacher got a fourth point for the Celtic, who won very comfortably in the end, but Celtic were indifferently led by Johnstons. Result:—Celtic, 1 goals; Airdrieonians, 1. Celtic—Multooney; M’Nair and Dodds;Young, Loney, and Mitchell; M'Atee Gallacher, Jounstone, M'Menemy, and Gray.
