1894-02-10 Celtic 5-1 St Mirren

The Scotsman - Monday, 12th February 1894, page 5

Celtic v St Mirren – At the Celtic Park. Wilson, of the 2d Saints, took Patrick’s place at goal. Campbell made his first appearance since his late illness. The ball was started in a gale of wind and sleet, the Celtic playing with its assistance. The play from the start was of an exceedingly brisk character. The Celtic hemmed in the Saints, but owing to Wilson’s clever saving it was fully twenty minutes ere they scored. Another was obtained ten minutes later. The second half opened with a determined rush by the Celtic forwards. Campbell, who had been playing splendidly so far, passed the ball across the goal-mouth, and Divers had it through in less than two minutes. After the restart a grand run by M’Mahon ended by him taking a fourth ten minutes later. Play now became more open, and near the close the Saints got their only goal from a corner. The Celts replied with a fifth, the game ending:- Celtic, five goals, St Mirren, one goal.
