The Scotsman - Monday, 4th December 1893, page 10
CELTIC V RENTON – At Celtic Park. The ground was very hard, bu the game began fast enough. The Celtic were first to assert themselves, Davie having his work cut out for him to keep his goal intact. A smart rush by Renton, headed by M’Call, led to the first goal being scored by Fleming. The Celts replied briskly, and M’Mahon equalised. Till the close of this half the Celtic had the best of the play, but could not again beat Davie, who was playing grandly. The Renton had another brilliant burst away, but Mathieson shot wide. Half-time :- one goal each. With the game even the play began briskly, both teams doing their utmost to get on the leading point. M’Mahon and Campbell were playing well together, and the former got a smart goal with an oblique shot, which Davie could not reach. Nothing daunted the Renton front rank came away in brilliant fashion, and M’Call had a try at goal, which Cullen cleared, only to be beaten a minute later by White, who all along had been going in grand form. With the game again equal matters became lively. A splendid shot by M’Call was only saved at the expense of a corner, which came to nothing. A minute from time M’Mahon scored again from a pass by Madden. Result :- Celtic, three goals; Renton, two goals.
