1892-05-14 Celtic 2-0 Leith Athletic

The Scotsman - Monday, 16th May 1892, page 5

CELTIC V LEITH ATHLETIC – This important League fixture took place at Parkhead. The Leith team was as announced, but the Celtic showed several alterations. Gallacher played vice Maley, while Flannigan and Fagan played in the place of M’Mahon and Madden. The Celtic team was thus much weaker than expected. Great interest was taken in the match, as was evidenced by the large crowds that assembled. The Celtic won the toss, and Leith kicked off against a slight breeze. The play during the first half was of the keenest possible description, and the Athletic showed finer football than they were considered capable of doing. The tricky passing of Laing, Blessington and M’Queen was of the highest, and was equal to the best efforts of the Celtic men. Towards the finish the game was keenly contested, and ended the same as in the first half – Celtic, two goals; Leith Athleitc, nil.
