Celtic v Abercorn – These clubs met at Underwood, Paisley in the League competition, before an enormous attendance and in scorching weather. Celts kicked off and immediately pressed Abercorn, gaining the first point one minute from start. Abercorn next had a turn, and kept the Celtic backs busy. The Celts retaliated and McCallum scored the second point. Afterwards Abercorn had a number of tries, but all unsuccessful. The Celts by McMahon again scored, and immediately Wallace scored for the ground team. Half-time :- Celtic, three goals; Abercorn, two goals. On the kick off Abercorn were first to show. After six minutes’ play McCallum scored the fourth for the Celtic. Abercorn bore down on the strangers’ goal, causing Duff great anxiety. Play continued even for a considerable time, and when twenty-five minutes had gone Madden scored the fifth goal with a swift low shot. The same player soon afterwards worked up grandly, but shot over the bar. Both elevens worked hard, but the Celts maintained their lead. Result – Celtic, five goals; Abercorn, two goals.
