1889-04-13 Cowlairs 0-1 Celtic
Celtic Games 1889 - Cowlairs
This match was played at Gourlay park. The crowd was one of the largest that has assembled there. The Celtic chose to play with the wind, which 'blew pretty stiffly, and after twenty minutes' hard play scored the first goal. Cowlairs made several attempts at scoring, but shot wide at times. Cowlairs did not score up to half-time. On resuming with the wind in their favour, Cowlairs pressed, and care Kelly quite enough to do. M'Cllum’s leg gave way, and he had to leave the field but, notwithstanding, the Celtic made several dangerous attacks. The home men were unfortunate in not scoring. The game throughout was hard. Result :Celtic, one goal; Cowlairs, nothing.
