Celtic Games 1888 - Northern
The Scotsman - Tuesday, 28th August 1888, page 3
Northern v Celtic —These teams met at Hyde Park, Springburn, last night before a crowd of about 3000 persons. The Cetic kicked off and for the first quarter of an hour They never away from the Northern’s posts, although they did not score. It seemed as if they seemed as if they were to have it much their own way, but the Northern eventually broke away, and several times caused Dinning to fist out. The Celtics scored first, A beautiful run by M'Callum, in which he dodged cleverly all the home men. resulted in a second point in favour of the Celtic. They crossed over, the strangers leading by two. On resuming, the Northern had once or twice good tries, but could not get the ball through. The strangers were too heavy for them. A well-fought game, during which the one side had quite as much of the play as the other, resulted in a win for the Celtic by three to nothing.
